Oct 05, 2023Alfa Jae Salon in Cary helps clients express themselves through vibrant colors
Alfa Jae Salon in Cary is known for hairstyles that instill self-confidence and showcase their clients passion in vivid colors. Owner Jae Betts says she wants every client who enters her salon to feel like the best version of themselves.
"I want them to feel like 'Wow, every time I go to Alfa Jae Salon, I'm an even better version of myself,’" Betts said. "I want them to feel elevated and beautiful, to the point, people stop them on the street and ask where they got their hair done."
Working alongside Betts is a team of hairstylists specializing in balayage, blonding, vivid colors, color corrections and edgy haircuts. Clients travel from all over for the service.
One client, who goes by @rainbowtatgirl on Instagram, said, "When coming to the salon, sometimes you know exactly what you want and other times you don't. Jae is a really good person to come up with those creative ideas."
Betts is the mastermind behind her current hairstyle, which consists of a colorful haircut with stars and a rainbow that matches her tattoo.
"Jae is so creative and I love it," she said. "It's probably one of my favorite styles so far."
Another client said she travels from California to get her hair colored and will not allow any other stylist to touch her hair.
Betts does basic hair coloring but specializes in fun, bright colors, including hot pink, multi-colors, ice-blond, unicorn and more.
"I started off in a suite and about 80% of my clients followed me when I moved and opened this shop," Betts says. "I just love that my clients support me and travel out of their current city to see me."
Betts and her team continuously seek inspiration and have a burning passion for helping their clients express themselves through hair.
"I decide to come work for Jae's shop because I like to stand out and be different," says apprentice Peyton Askew. "I think hair color is a way to express myself. I think people should have fun in their life and that fun can be through hair."
Askew recently graduated from cosmetology school in December and credited Betts with helping her evolve in the hair industry.
"Jae is laid back and super helpful in teaching me stuff," said Askew. "She is good at explaining things and is patient with me. (I’m) just grateful for this opportunity."
Betts credits her mother with urging her to go to cosmetology school, where her skills could involve art. Her mother, an artist, designs jewelry displayed in the shop.
"Growing up, I had a single mom who made jewelry; she makes keychains and handmade jewelry," said Betts. "She likes to do a lot of stuff with Legos, so I display her items along with an artist named Anisa who also sells her astrology goodies here."
Customers can also get a consultation, waxing, makeup, hair tips and more services at 1207 Kildaire Farm Road, Ste F, in Cary. As an educator, hairdresser, artist and salon owner, Betts’ mission is to give her clients a safe space to express themselves through colorful, long-lasting memories.
